Dear Parent Connection Family and Friends,
Each year during the holiday season, we ask our members to consider making the world a better place by teaching their child(ren) compassion. When you demonstrate compassion by reaching out to help others who are less fortunate, you are letting your child experience the joy of giving with the realization that they are making a difference. So this year, while you are enjoying holiday activities with family and friends, please take some time to open your heart to those who can use some holiday cheer. The Parent Connection has made it convenient for you to reach out to help. We’ve put together a list of organizations (page 4) that can use your help.
This year will be the first year that my family celebrates the holidays without my mother because she passed away this fall. My mother believed in the importance of family traditions and the beauty of passing them down through generations. I treasure the traditions she taught me. They are especially meaningful to me now, since they allow me to hold her memory and spirit close to my heart during the holidays. This year, as my family celebrates Mochizuki by making the traditional Japanese “mochi,†we will be making it with extra love.
The holidays are a great time for families to pass down old traditions and to establish new ones of their own. Here are some of our members’ favorites:
- Enjoying neighborhood holiday lights with family and friends
- Caroling with family and friends
- Helping someone who needs assistance
- Visiting senior or skilled nursing home
- Decorating cookies and setting them out for Santa on Christmas Eve
- Hosting a playgroup holiday party

Happy Holidays and a Splendid New Year!
