Customer Service Policies

Whether you are expecting your first baby or you are well into the joys of parenthood, as you purchase gear you are bound to encounter issues that require service.
Repairs are usually handled by the manufacturer, not the store. For replacement parts you must contact the company or return the item to the store to exchange it for a replacement, although IKEA stocks some common replacement hardware pieces.
If you need to return an online purchase you can often save on shipping by returning it to a store and may even get an immediate refund or exchange if the product is in stock.
Specific return policies for five of the most popular children’s products retailers are listed below:
- Wal-Mart– 90 days to return most items with a receipt or with a packing slip for an online order. Without a receipt you may get store credit for the lowest price. Online orders can be returned to the store or by mail.
- Target– 90 days to return an item with a receipt (or with the receipt look-up service if you paid with a credit/debit card or check). Without a receipt you may get store credit or have to settle for an exchange within the same department, limited to one time in a calendar year. Target .com purchases should be returned by mail or some items can be returned to the store.
- Babies-R-Us–return a store purchase within 90 days; an online purchase in 30 days. Electronic items and breast pumps purchased at the store must be returned in 45 days. Some online purchases can be returned to a store—check the packing slip for restrictions. A receipt (or credit card look-up in the store) or packing slip is required for all returns.
- Costco–no deadline on returns of most items (some electronic items have a 90 day window). You need a receipt or they will look up your Costco account. Items purchased at Costco.com can be returned to a store, or to return online purchases by mail you must contact customer service.
- IKEA– 90 days with a receipt only at the store. Online purchases should be returned by mail or by calling IKEA and you need to report damage or incorrect items within 5 days. Used bedding cannot be returned.
