April Magazine Editorial

Dear Parent Connection Family and Friends,

March was a busy month for the Parent Connection. One of our March events was the Family Swap Meet where everyone benefitted. Buyers got great bargains on family items and sellers were able to sell items from their spring cleaning. What a wonderful way to be “green” by recycling children’s clothes and toys and purchasing items at a deep discount. The next Family Swap Meet is scheduled for October 9.
Thanks again to Susan Stimson and the team of volunteers who make this event a success year after year.

With Tax Day approaching fast, most people are thinking about getting their financial planning in order. That’s why we have scheduled “Meet the Experts,” Monday, April 18. Come and listen to our panel of estate attorneys, financial planners and Mark Miller (KCBQ Radio) for free advice about getting your personal matters in order.

This month’s cover photo was taken at one of San Diego County’s famous landmarks, the Carlsbad Flower Fields. Located just east of I-5 off Palomar Airport Road, the Carlsbad Flower Fields offers one of the most scenic of views with nearly fifty acres of giant Tecolote Ranunculus that will be in full bloom during April. Bring your cameras and family for a distinctive family photo or set up an appointment with Keane Studios.

“Man’s best friend” can also be known as a “woman’s best confidante.” That was my little dog, Patches. Patches was discovered at an adoption event in front of PetSmart by our magazine editor, Jean Russo. Jean called and asked me to come look at her. North County Humane wasn’t having any luck in finding her a forever home and they could not understand why because she was so kind natured. My family and I realized she was the one for us from our very first encounter with her.

She was a unique-looking dog found wandering the streets of Oceanside looking for food. The more we knew Patches, the more we loved her. Why hadn’t her previous owners come looking for her? We were glad they didn’t because it gave us the opportunity to have her in our lives. Patches passed away recently. She lived a good, long life where she was the queen of the castle. She is missed by all who knew her.
