Saving the Earth & Saving Money At The Family Swap Meet

Local Families Line Up for Bargains on Baby Gear and Kids Items

With Earth Day coming up, many local parents are thinking about how to reduce the amount of baby and kids items that they use for a short time and then throw away.  For years, local parents have flocked to Parent Connection’s family swap meets to buy and sell such items, including new and used baby, children’s and maternity clothing, handcrafted gifts, toys, strollers, wagons, tricycles, car seats, high chairs, play pens and other furniture.  The first Family Swap Meet of 2013 will be held at Canyon Crest Academy on Sunday, April 14th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Early Sunday morning, hundreds of local parents will line up outside Canyon Crest Academy in Carmel Valley to compete for the best buys on essential baby gear and children’s items.  Jennifer Ott, a local mother of twins, remarks, “It seems like such a waste of money to spend a lot of money on kids’ clothes that won’t fit anymore in six months.  I love buying used items and then selling or giving them away for someone else to use after me.”  Renee Zau, the Parent Connection board chairperson, notes, “By passing along our outgrown baby and kids’ products rather than dumping them at the landfill we are helping our members save money locally while being environmentally friendly and preventing the negative impact of unnecessary packing materials, boxes, and transportation.”

Breakfast and lunch will be available for purchase from a local gourmet food truck.  When the Swap Meet winds down, local charity trucks will arrive to pick up any unsold items that vendors choose to donate.

Hello, I’m a recent grandma. My grandson is 2 months old. Hate to buy infant furniture since he is growing so fast. In need of a baby bouncer, car seat for infant plus the base and a stroller for free. I will pass it on to the next grandma when I’m done.
